Sara Svati is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans theatre, performance, and visual art. With a foundation in dance, she has developed an interest in costume design that incorporates elements of fashion. As a scenographer for contemporary theatre, her studies in visual art have enriched the visual dimension of her work, deepening her understanding of various disciplines and crafts. She has further integrated directing into her practice as a cohesive artistic expression.
She founded the research project [Orientale Sarda] to foster independent practice in performance and theatre-making, collaborating with a diversity of artists and practitioners. Her interests and research gravitate towards visual and humanistic studies, dance and movement, with a strong focus on esoterica, mythopoiesis, sacred architecture, ruralism, and the intersection of ancient and modern paradigms in technology for performance.
[Orientale Sarda] will launch a series of open labs on Artificialities in England this autumn as part of its new research programme, 'Quantum Theatre'.
More recently, she has expanded her research practice into pedagogy, which includes teaching and mentoring across cultural institutions in the UK and Europe.
In October 2024, Sara Svati will present 'Tech Tales' at the Prague Quadrennial Symposium: Technologies in the Czech Republic. Her presentation explores the intersection of traditional and contemporary paradigms in technology for performance, aiming to demystify expectations surrounding independent theatre productions.
In November 2024, she will present its new work Q. with [Orientale Sarda] at the Voilà! Theatre Festival in London.
This first studio focuses on the role of the translator, merging weird technologies, cosplay, and occultism.
